KVideoPod Pro manual
The picture settings sheet lets you see preview frames from your video and change how it will look. You can move between preview frames by using the Previous and Next buttons at the bottom of the sheet. By checking the "Useless OpenGL effects" box, when you move between preview frames, you will see pretty pretty visual effects.
Size
This section sets the width and height of the output. These will be the number of pixels used in your encoded video. The steppers increment up and down by 16. For an explanation of why, read this.
Keep aspect ratio
When this is checked, KVideoPod Pro will link the height and width so that the picture is never distorted from its original aspect ratio.
Anamorphic (PAR)
When this is checked, KVideoPod Pro will encode anamorphically. giving you a bigger picture. With this enabled, the picture dimensions will be locked and the "Keep aspect ratio" box will be dimmed out.
Crop
Sometimes, movies have black lines on the sides. To get rid of the them, you crop the picture. When the Automatic radio button is active, as it is by default, KVideoPod Pro choose its own values for the cropping. These autodetected values are adequate, but sometimes they don't catch everything. If this is the case, click the Custom cropping radio button. This will enable the 4 numerical fields below arranged in a T-shape. Each field controls the cropping for that side of the picture. The steppers increment by 2, because cropping works best with even numbers.
Video Filters
Detelecine
Check the Detelecine box to enable inverse telecine. For more information on what that is and when you should use it, see this section of the Framerate Guide. It's only available when the frame rate is 29.97.
Deinterlace
If you see combing or teeth (horizontal lines) in the preview images, choose a method from the Deinterlace pop-up menu. If that makes the lines go away, keep it enabled. For a fuller explanation, see the Deinterlacing Guide. If enabling it doesn't seem to change the picture in the preview frames, disable it. You're better off leaving it unchecked except when it's absolutely needed. Fast deinterlacing seriously reduces picture quality, while the slow deinterlacing methods will seriously reduce your encoding speeds.
Denoise
Select a strength from the Denoise pop-up menu to remove excess grain or noise from a video. This is useful to improve quality or reduce bitrate. KVideoPod Pro uses a high quality denoiser that works both spatially within a frame and temporally across frames. Still, be aware that denoising, by nature, loses detail from an image.
Note that because the denoiser works across frames, it is not possible to see its effects in the preview frames presented on the Picture Settings sheet.
