1. It is possible to re-compress an already compressed file?

Yes it is possible (H.264, DivX, Xvid, mp4 etc.) Default procedure: select quality compression between medium and medium-high then set all other parameters on automatic. Normally the reduction results are considerable even for example on old black & white movies.

2. Why sometimes the weight of a file increases instead of diminishing?

This situation could occur with films that have already been compressed originally. For example: when taking in consideration videos settings with high quality parameters (Max quality) it is preferable to set everything on automatic and then select a medium compression quality.

3. Is JPDM a standard?

No, JPDMovie is a pre-filter that operates on the entry data before the actual compression. This action of data buffer adjustment has the sole scope of modifying the “quantitization” of space colour in order to allow the compressor to operate with more efficiency.

4. Is JPDM a format?

No, the container of the final compression carried out with JPDM pre-filter could be any kind of format. In this specific case we have opted for the .mov container.

5. Is the batch to compress or recompress multiple films available in KandalLite?

KandaluLite’s architecture allows this function that will be implemented in the next upcoming versions.

6. Is it possible to compress without loss of data (Lossless) in order to achieve a better editing?

It is possible and many codec are dedicated to such operation. KandaluLite will implement such operation with a new codec released in the upcoming releases. The lossless codec, CPDMovie (CPDM) will implement the technology already utilised in the photo compression with the CDP format.

7. Which settings are recommended?

The fundamental setting is the quality selection function: max, high, medium, low. Our suggestion is the one not to go under a medium quantitization. All other parameters need some experience, therefore in order to not incur in errors it is preferable to set up automatically.
